Aging in Slow Motion

To stay fit food and exercise is not enough. You have to set priorities, change the way you think, laugh at yourself and with others, and accept what you cannot change. Do not take things to seriously, forgive and forget. Life is to short as it is. Enjoy every single day; do not waste any of them. I just turned not so long ago 86. Seems to me that not so far back I was only twenty and all of a sudden 86. What has happened? War happeneed marriage happened, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren happened and all this so quickly. Every day is a gift and not only to the elderly. What you miss today it is gone by tomorrow.
If you can manage it, travel and see as much of the world as you can manage.

Healthy Aging, Your Responsibility

Looking trough and organizing some pictures, I came upon a picture of a girlfriend of mine who came to visit me in Winnipeg in 2004 from Toronto We have not seen each other for years ,I picked her up at the airport and was shocked to see how obese she was. She lost her husband to cancer a few years back and never got over it. That contributed a lot to her present condition. She was medicating and comforting herself with food.
I looked forward to her visit not seeing her for so many years. I remembered her as a young vivacious slender woman, with a good sense of humour and I had a very difficult time hiding my shock and disappointment.
We talked about obesity, changing eating habits exercise walking. She seemed to listen but I wonder. She was telling me that life is short and I quote: “I will not deny myself the food I like just because I am a little overweight” end of quote
10 months ago, she died of a massive stroke, which could have been avoided She was 80.
She was in denial and many people believe that it cannot happen to them. It only happens to somebody else
We are what we eat and the hard work pays out on the end. I cannot stress it enough that WE and nobody else is responsible for our health.

Change Your Life Style With Healthy Eating Habits

It took me over a year to really get it, I mean getting it in my head, that food is only to nourish the body and not to comfort, entertain, kill boredom or for any other reason we use for excuse to over eat.
It is not easy, but now that I get it, I am fully in control. I eat at the same time every day and I am hungry at the same time every day. I have omitted red meat, white flour or anything made of white flour. I eat two main meals morning, night, and a yogurt with a half of a banana or a hardboiled egg in between.
I do not think of food and lost the craving I use food only to nourish the body.
When I am in a situation where food I should not eat is at my disposal, I find it much easier to say no and walk away. I do cave in periodically but that is by choice.
Once you understand the importance of implementing discipline and you REALY want to take care of yourself, it is not that hard as it sounds. Your body gets used to the regular routine of normal eating habits; you see result and feel good about yourself and motivated. There are many food choices you can make, be creative, and find a way that it works for you.
Whole grain breads, sprinkle sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds on your salad, small portion of lean meat, fish, and lots of vegetable. Lots of fruits, apple, berries cantaloupe pears, and any other fruit available to you. Do not forget to add a handful of unsalted nuts to your diet.
Low fat milk, yogurt cottage cheese should also be a part of your diet. As I said before there are lots of choices and varieties all you have to do use your imagination and be creative.
